AED Training
ADULT CPR WITH AED OPTION, COURSE NUMBER 3241

This course covers how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults. It also presents information on living a healthy life and preventing heart disease. An optional module is offered training individuals how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This device can restart a heart that has stopped breathing effectively. These two skills are needed to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim. Prerequisites: None. Required Books and Materials: Workplace Training: Adult CPR/AED Skill Card; Pocket Mask or ARC Barrier Key Chain; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional).


 

Basic Water Rescue
BASIC WATER RESCUE, COURSE NUMBER 3440

This course is designed for community members who wish to learn basic water safety skills that can be used in any aquatic recreational environment. Prerequisites: None, should be comfortable in deep water. Required Books and Materials: Basic Water Rescue.


 

CPR for the Professional Rescuer
CPR FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER, COURSE NUMBER 3214

This class is designed to train participants with advanced resuscitation skills used in professional health care environments. This class includes Adult, Child and Infant CPR and use of barrier devices and two person CPR. This satisfies all requirements for CPR for the healthcare provider. Prerequisites: None. Required Books and Materials: Lifeguarding Training, 2000; Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional).

First Aid
STANDARD FIRST AID WITH AED, COURSE NUMBER 32410

This course prepares one to respond and give aid to someone with a cut, scrape, bruise, burn, to control bleeding, minimize the effects of shock; injuries to bones, muscles, joints, and sudden illnesses, including poisonings and heat and cold related emergencies. This course includes how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Prerequisites: None. Required Books and Materials: Standard First Aid participant's Booklet; Workplace Training: First Aid Skill Card; Adult CPR/AED Skills Card; Pocket Mask or ARC Barrier Key Chain; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional).


 

Guard Start
GUARDSTART: COURSE NUMBER 34650

Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around the aquatic environment. This course prepares younger students for the job of being a Lifeguard. Please bring a suit and be prepared to swim on the first day. Report to AHG on the first day: Prerequisites: Age:11-14 yrs; Swim 25 continuous yards; Submerge and swim 10 yds underwater; Tread water 1 minute using arms and legs. Required Books and Materials: Guard Start Folder; Pocket Mask or ARC Barrier Key Chain; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional); Whistle


 

Lifeguard Management
HEAD LIFEGUARD, COURSE NUMBER 3463

This course will provide lifeguards career development training that includes injury prevention, selection and training of lifeguards, teambuilding, interaction with patrons, and emergency-response planning. Prerequisites: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate, or a current lifeguard training certificate from another nationally recognized organization. Required Books and Materials: Lifeguarding Training,2000; Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional); Whistle.

Lifeguard Training
LIFEGUARD TRAINING: COURSE NUMBER 34700.

Gain the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around the aquatic environment. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid is now taught within the course. Additional training in oxygen and the use of an AED is available. Report to AHG prepared to swim on the first day. Please contact Don Crowley for information regarding REVIEW and CHALLENGE courses. (Prerequisites: Age 15 yrs; Swim 500 continuous yards; Swim 20 yds, surface dive 7ft and retrieve a 10-lb diving brick and return. Required Books and Materials: Lifeguarding Training; Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional); Whistle and Lanyard.


 

Lifeguard Instructor
LIFEGUARDING INSTRUCTOR 2001, COURSE NUMBER 34700i

Instructor candidates learn to teach Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen administration, AED, Preventing Disease Transmission, Lifeguard Instructor Aide, Basic Water Rescue and Community Water Safety by developing an understanding of the course materials and methods of conducting training sessions and evaluating participant's progress. Participants are expected on the 1st day to perform and pass all CPR and lifeguarding skills and two written examinations over the same material. This course does not include Fundamentals of Instructor Training which is a prerequisite. Please bring a suit on the first day. Prerequisites: Age 17 yrs; possess either a current American Red Cross Health & Safety Instructor authorization or a Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate issued within one year; Successfully pass two written exams and skill scenarios held on the first day of the course. Required Books and Materials: Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual,2000 (will not be available until participants successfully pass pre-course session on 1st day of class); Lifeguard Training; Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional); Whistle; Clipboard.


Oxygen Administration
OXYGEN FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER, COURSE NUMBER 3262

This class is designed to train participants with advanced resuscitation skills used in professional health care environments. This class includes Adult, Child and Infant CPR and use of barrier devices and two person CPR. This satisfies all requirements for CPR for the healthcare provider. Prerequisites: Current American Red Cross Adult CPR or the equivalent issued within one year. Required Books and Materials: Lifeguarding Training, 2000; Pocket Mask; First Aid Fanny Pack (optional).


 

Safety Training for Swim Coaches
SAFETY TRAINING FOR SWIM COACHES, COURSE NUMBER 3414

This class provides training in aquatic safety for competitive swim coaches and officials, athletic trainers, athletes participating in aquatic activities, aquatic exercise trainers, and other individuals involved in aquatic competition. Please bring a suit on the 1st day of class. 3 ARC CEUs provided. Prerequisites: Comfortable in deep water. Required Books and Materials: Safety Training for Swim Coaches.


 

Water Safety Instructor
WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR, COURSE NUMBER 3430i

Instructor candidates refine aquatic skills and swimming strokes, learn to teach the Infant and Preschool Aquatic program, the 7 levels of the Learn to Swim program, Community Water Safety, Water Safety Instructor aide and Longfellow's Whaletales. In addition, eligible participants will be able to learn how to teach the Safety Training for Swim Coaches course. This class DOES include Fundamentals of Instructor Participants are expected on the 1st day to perform swimming strokes and basic rescue skills and pass a written exam over the same material. Please report to AHG and bring a suit on the 1st day. Prerequisites: Age 17 yrs; Successfully pass a written exam and perform swimming strokes and basic rescue skills on the first day of the course. Required Books and Materials: WSI Packet; Fundamentals of Instructor Training Packet; Whistle; Clipboard.

 


 

Waterfront Lifeguard
WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING: COURSE NUMBER 3461

Course participants are taught the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at a waterfront facility. They will learn missing person procedures, how to search for a SCUBA diver, and cold water rescue. Demonstration of specific rescue skills for waterfronts will be required. Please bring a suit on the first day. Prerequisites: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid and American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate.
